Jog On : How Running Changed My Life By Bella Mackie

Hey loves!

Time for another book review! Today, I'll be reviewing Jog On By Bella Mackie. This book comes out on the 27th December (ONLY 4 DAYS LEFT!) but I have already spotted a few early copies in some bookshops!

First off, a HUGE THANK YOU to William Collins Books for sending me a proof copy along with a BEAUTIFUL finished copy!

About the Book

Divorced and struggling with deep-rooted mental health problems, Bella Mackie ended her twenties in tears. She could barely find the strength to get off the sofa, let alone piece her life back together. Until one day she did something she had never done of her own free will – she pulled on a pair of trainers and went for a run.

That first attempt didn't last very long. But to her surprise, she was back out there the next day. And the day after that. She began to set herself achievable goals – to run 5k in under 30 minutes, to walk to work every day for a week, to attempt 10 push-ups in a row. Before she knew it, her mood was lifting for the first time in years.

In Jog On, Bella explains with hilarious and unfiltered honesty how she used running to battle crippling anxiety and depression, without having to sacrifice her main loves: booze, cigarettes and ice cream. With the help of a supporting cast of doctors, psychologists, sportspeople and friends, she shares a wealth of inspirational stories, research and tips that show how exercise often can be the best medicine. This funny, moving and motivational book will encourage you to say ‘jog on' to your problems and get your life back on track – no matter how small those first steps may be.

My Thoughts

Rating: A VERY STRONG 4/5 STARS ★★★★

I read this book in one sitting, it had me hooked from the beginning.

Jog On was a very refreshing, quick, inspiring and relatable read. I'm going to be completely honest, as someone who struggles from mild anxiety and LOVES running, I was very intrigued by this book. Although I enjoy running, it's not something I do as often! (I KNOW I SHOULD). I was hoping for motivation from this book and that's exactly what I got about 2 chapters in. I felt like actually slipping my trainers on and going for a run at 3am ( YES, 3AM, the urge was real!).

It's been 2 days since I read Jog On and my perspectives have changed a lot up to the point where I can say that this book is LIFE CHANGING.
Jog On is a very informative and insightful book. Apart from Bella's journey, it features anecdotes from other people who have found running as a way to cope with their anxiety or mental health.
I LOVE the research and effort put into this powerful memoir.

I thoroughly enjoyed Bella's writing, it was totally unfiltered. I really appreciate the author's honesty especially when talking about mental health which is still sadly a taboo.

I HIGHLY recommend this book, I can't praise it enough!

Jog On is beautifully written and compelling. It is one of the BEST Non-Fiction/Memoir I've read this year and I'm so happy I've got a proof copy along with a finished copy to keep forever on my bookshelf. It's a book I want to keep!

Hope you enjoyed this review, if you do read Jog On and then please let me know as I would love to discuss and chat with you about this gem of a book!

Also, Merry Christmas!!!!! 🎅🎄
